We definitely should have planned to spend time before the cruise in Barcelona. The people that we talked to that did so raved about how wonderful the city is to explore - next time for sure!
Embarkation/Disembarkation -
The overall embarkation process was fairly straight-forward, but a little under managed. Quite a few people wandering around unsure of what to do and where to go. There seemed to be plenty of staff around, so not sure why there was so much confusion. Either way, the process was pretty smooth. Disembarkation was pretty much had the same feel. Organized, but under managed. People weren't really sure what was going on and the staff was there, but not communicating/directing very well. Picking up the luggage off the ship was nice, but the method was chaotic. There was decent direction on where to go, but some of the luggage was on the belt and some was just lined up on the floor. Trying to find your luggage in an ocean of look alike luggage is not an easy task. It probably would have been easier to drag it off the ship ourselves and go right to the transfer bus. Speaking of the transfer bus, we did it both to/from the airport. What we didn't realize is that the transfer from the airport had a little mini Barcelona tour included. Maybe we got in too early for them to take us directly to the ship or something, but we had planned to get there early, drop our luggage, and head to the city with a very specific agenda. next time, we may skip the transfer so we have more free time - or just spend a few days in the city before or after the cruise.
We chose a location directly behind the elevators and weren't really sure how much elevator noise we would hear. There was actually absolutely none! We were a little worried about our cabin placement as we were in a balcony room directly behind the elevators. We thought maybe we'd hear the ding of the elevators arriving all day/night, but actually didn't hear a thing. Also, because we were directly behind the elevators, there was almost no foot traffic outside our door - EVER. Other than the few rooms right behind the elevators, everyone else went to the hallways to the left or right and never came to the section right behind the elevators. Big plus for us.
Cannes is kind of a boring city - unless you are totally into the Film Festival. Outside of that, not much to see/do and the restaurants seemed a little dead.
