Sail Date: Oct 2017
Cabin: Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

My family of 4 sailed on the Oasis of the Seas departing Oct 8, 2017 from Port Canaveral. 2 adults, 2 teenagers. the original itinerary was Eastern Caribbean but changes were made due to Hurricane Irma. We were St. Maartin - San Juan - Labadie and changed to Nassau - Cozumel - Costa Maya. I was very impressed with the communication from Royal Caribbean regarding all the changes. Emails were timely and the website had updated information everyday at 2pm thru all the multiple hurricanes. Our planned shore excursions were automatically refunded and information about the new ports and shore excursions were available within 1-2 days after announcing the changes.

Due to an accident 6 weeks before sailing I needed to change my cabin to an accessible cabin and rent a mobility scooter. I called RCCL and they were able to change my cabin without extra payment to an accessible cabin which really fit our needs. I rented a mobility scooter from the Special Needs Group, a company that was recommended on RCCL website. The scooter was waiting in my cabin when I arrived and it performed flawlessly all week. I even took it off the ship in Nassau and explored the nearby areas. The Oasis has plenty of room to accommodate a scooter, and since I could walk a little bit, I would park the scooter usually in the stairwell/elevator hallways or over on the side of the deck and walk a short distance to my destination. Crew members and passengers alike were very helpful. I would recommend that if you have a mobility scooter or wheelchair to try to use the forward elevators as those were not as crowded as the aft elevators. It was no problem to eat in the main dining room, then scooter to the forward elevators to go to my deck. Be aware that Deck 6 does not go all the way across without going thru the stateroom hallway. I often used Deck 16 and Deck 5 to get from one side to another. Deck 15 (pool deck) was very crowded.

We had booked a Refreshment beverage package for me, a Soda and 1 device Voom Wireless package for my husband, a soda package for 1 teen, and pre-purchased 2 of the Evian liter cases for the other teen who only likes water. on Day 2 I had not used the refreshment package at all except for 1 filling of soda at the Coke Freestyle machine. I went to guest services and had them reduce my package to the soda package only. This was handled very well and we saw the credit to our account the next day. For my family we could have gotten away with only the Soda and 1 device Voom wireless, and 1 soda package and 1 case of the Evian bottles. I didn't drink enough soda to make it worthwhile. Sodas cost $3.00 which means you need to drink more than 3 a day to make it worthwhile. I didn't average that for sure. Make sure you look at the prices of drinks and consider what you really drink a day before purchasing a beverage package. I'm a coffee drinker and I found the free coffee available and tasted just fine. I had a latte once for $4.00. There was a Starbucks kiosk and I used my Starbucks app to pay for the one time I had to have a Pumpkin Spice Latte. The Starbucks kiosk can also take your ship card and be billed to your onboard account. My teenager figured that out on Day 4 of the cruise and I think he ate them out of their chocolate chip cookies!

Cabin Review

Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D8

The accessible cabin was terrific! came with a foldout armchair that I had made up as a bed as well. I had difficulty getting comfortable due to the injuries I had and our cabin steward did everything he could to make me feel good. I had a bed wedge as well and used it as cushion behind my back. The bathroom had a walk in shower and fold down shower bench

We also had a Central Park balcony cabin 12183 for two members of our family which was fine. No one in our family hardly used this balcony as the accessible cabin we had came with an ocean facing balcony. we were on Deck 12 and really couldn't see much of Central Park from the balcony. Faced the other balcony staterooms on the starboard side. We could hear the string music playing at night even with the sliding door closed. This cabin came with some perks; bottle of red wine, free lunch for 2 in selected places; free casino lesson. The red wine was nice and there wasn't a corkage fee so we took it to the main dining room and enjoyed it with our dinner. We didn't use the other two perks.

Port Reviews

Nassau

Been there many times. It's fine but we didn't really have much we wanted to do there besides walk around a bit.

Port Canaveral (Orlando)

Parking and drop off was very easy. We parked right at the port and know that you have to pay up front. Embarkation was easy and I was able to get a wheelchair assist to board. I didn't make advance reservations for that, just ask when you get there.
