Originally, we chose this cruise because it was described as an "Active Discovery" vacation that offered us an opportunity to explore the Danube. A broken back during a cruise in 2016 modified our expectations, since we could not engage in some of the vigorous activities we would have chosen. However, we were treated respectfully and provided with ample ways to optimize our experience. From our visit to see the "Trout Circus" to the visit with a Count to engagement with an apricot farmer, we were taken beyond the typical tourist offerings of the regions we traversed. We were blessed with exceptional tours in Vienna and Budapest, with a unique opportunity at the Opera House in Pest where we were treated to the vocal renderings by an extraordinary male member of the operatic cast. We cherish the memories and encourage our friends to get onboard in the future. Thanks to the members of the crew and the support team that helped us as we prepared for the voyage, cruised on the Danube and returned safely home.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Stateroom with French Balcony

Cabin A

Very comfortable accommodation with plenty of storage space available, which we appreciate having been on other cruises.

The Quintet of musicians that boarded the vessel offered a stunning presentation featuring piano, violin, viola, cello and flute. The women were excellent performers and entertainers. We were privileged to have them join us from their native country, travel with us on the Danube for several miles and then return to their homeland. It was a night to remember! We enjoyed the access to the bridge and the informative presentation by the crew. Our meals were prepared and presented with tantalizing tastes and upscale precision. Having windows that allowed us to feel like we were living in a "balcony" offered vistas from our stateroom the likes of which are not to be found aboard any of the competitive vessels that we saw as we plied the waters of the Danube. We have thoroughly enjoyed each of our voyages over the past several years, making Avalon a high priority on our list of favorite cruise lines, one that we never hesitate to promote among family and friends who are interested in cruising on riverboats.
