We chose this cruise because Silver Sea is one of several cruise 5-star luxury cruise lines and we liked the itinerary (and our friends asked us to join them). While the cruise was very good overall, we felt that some of the "rules" were rigid and the staff, while anxious to please, often wasn't well trained. On several occasions, we were told that the specialty dining room was sold out. We showed up anyhow and the room was always half empty! A pity for the staff that had to prepare the meals. Apparently, there were "no shows." While I don't believe in extra charges, I think there should have been a charge if someone confirmed a reservation and then didn't show, denying it to someone else. There wasn't a good explanation of the wi-fi scheme and maybe it should have been included in the "all-inclusive" rate. Our one free hour ran out because we weren't told that we had to log out. At the end of the cruise, there was a charge for wi-fi but it couldn't be removed, because the computers were closed. That should have been the time when the bills should have been resolved. There seemed to be a lot of excuses like that. The ship's common areas were a little bit dated. We learned that it is going in for a retrofit in March. I guess it is common on cruises but there was always someone trying to sell you something: art, shoe inserts, you name it. The excursions were priced about 50-75% above what I was able to arrange on my own (I guess that's typical).
