We weren't sure we would really like a cruise holiday and chose Windstar because we liked the idea of a smaller ship that was more casual and geared to a younger more active clientele. The itinerary which included mainly stops in Croatia was another thing that appealed to us.
The yacht is beautiful and well kept and the cabins are a lot larger than we expected.
The entire crew were amazing - from day 1 we were greeted by name at every interaction. With almost as many crew members as passengers, the service level is very personal and there is always someone there, ready to serve you with a smile. The officers are also very accessible and interact with guests (loved being able to go up to the bridge any time).
Each is a suite with a small sitting area with a huge picture window. The queen bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was spacious with 2 sinks (ours didn't have a tub, just a walk in shower which we actually preferred). The L'Occitane toiletries are a nice touch. There was also a flat screen tv, mini bar, safe and plenty of room for luggage and hanging up clothes. Our cabin attendant, Jaman was wonderful, he would make sure our room was spotless and serviced it multiple times per day.
We did a mountain bike tour that we booked through Windstar. It was on the Parenzana rail trail. We took a bus from the port up into the mountains to a small walled city of Groznejana (the guide was very knowledgeable and gave excellent commentary on the bus ride). We got a chance to look around the town and then got on our bikes and started on the trail (mainly downhill). It is meant for people who have at least some experience riding a mountain bike, the trail isn't that technical but if some without good biking skills might find going downhill tricky/stressful.
