We were not able to get the drinks we wanted on this package. We wanted a double shot of whiskey and we were told that the bartender could lose their jobs because passengers could fall and break their hip. We saw other passengers add a cash tip on top of the bill and then they were given doubles. We saw this at the Schooner bar. The bartender at the Crown and Castle pub was very arrogant. Nothing is posted in their advertising or at the bar that you can order only one shot of liquor. The irony, I could order cosmos all day long with two shots of vodka but according to RCCL bartenders, "that isn't the same thing." A mai tai, was also a drink with more than 1 shot of liquor and that is ok to serve, but a double shot of whiskey is not. Mind blowing. If RCCL said that their policy is that the drink package is limited to one shot of liquor (like they mention your value of one glass of wine is up to $12.) that would be ok. Just don't make the rules as you see fit, or if it profits you to only make the doubles if you get a little extra cash. INSULTING.
The spa receptionist was very rude and unwelcoming. When you pay for a $150 service, you would expect to be treated with respect. I was told to "sit over there and wait" (with a rude tone). I was also told "what do you want?" instead of "how can help you." Thank goodness the massage therapist was very professional.
Was any staff happy to be working? With the exception of our great cabin steward, and the waitstaff at Giovanni's, Chops and Izumi, and Alicia who helped us when we missed our "tender time" for our tour, everyone seemed grumpy. One staff member told us he couldn't wait to get off the ship, he only had 7 days left on his contract. Not something I would think you would share to a passenger.
We hired an outside company for a private 5 hour tour of Bar Harbor ending with a fabulous lobster lunch at Beal's. We hired At Your Service taxi. They were excellent although very, very expensive. It was worth the price not to have to battle with a bus or a tour van. We were able to stop wherever we wanted and did not have any problem accessing anywhere.
Nothing is better than having your sorority sister who is a tour guide in Saint John take you on a private tour. What a wonderful city!
