We had sailed with Viking River Cruises in Russia, and we knew to expect luxurious accommodations, great food and excellent tour offerings. The Danube tour didn't disappoint. The service was superb -- personable, attentive, helpful. The extensions were particularly fine. Our pre-tour extension in Ljubliana was fantastic. The guide was extremely knowledgeable (an art PhD) and attentive to every detail of our stay. The tour of Lake Bleb was a real standout. The Prague tour was good but not as remarkable. Because of the number of participants, the service was very impersonal and at times disorganized. The city itself made up for it. You should definitely take the two-hour city tour offered by the hotel. Riding in vintage open-topped cars, you can ride throughout the city, including places off-limits to other vehicles.
We were very fortunate to be upgraded to an Explorer Suite, and they're worth the price. The room, with balconies on two sides, are a true luxury -- spacious, well-appointed, well-stocked with fruit and drinks. They're also very private and quiet, and a wonderful way to watch the countryside.
Magnificent -- spacious, lovely, with every convenience. Because the two Explorer Suites are located at the back of the ship, they're unusually quiet and private. If you like to spend time in your suite reading and watching the view, these are perfect.
