Viking Modi Cruise Review by Ktloves2cruise
- Sail Date: July 2017
- Destination: Europe River
- Cabin Type: Veranda Superior
The itinerary didn't list times in the ports so we were disappointed that some days were much shorter then we expected. For instance, the itinerary listed two days in Vienna, but we didn't arrive until the evening on the 1st day so we really only had one day. There were times where we were dropped off for an excursion before we arrived in town while the ship went along the river without us. I was a little uncomfortable not knowing exactly where the ship would be docked in case we wanted to find our way back to the ship on our own. We didn't experience any problems with this as we booked excursions through Viking and were kept very busy.
All that said, we had a wonderful trip. The lectures were informative and the excursions were always what we had hoped for with great guides and good meals when included. We felt that we had learned a lot and had a great introduction to the palaces, churches and castles along the Danube, Main and Rhine.
The staff on the ship were always warm and friendly and ready to answer any questions that we might have. The meals were good with a couple of meals exceptional.

BambergThis was one of my favorite towns. Our city tour was followed by ample time to wander the streets of this World heritage site nicknamed "Little Venice" for it's canals and medieval buildings.View All 140 Bamberg Cruise Port Reviews

CologneAfter grabbing a quick lunch following our all morning tour in Cologne we got on a bus with our same tour guide (who was great for both morning and afternoon) and headed out to the country. We visited both the Augustburg Castle and Falkenlust which were built for the prince archbishops of Cologne.View All 13,770 Cologne Cruise Port Reviews

Walking TourOur walking tour took us along the river in the early morning, through the town and to the Cathedral where we got a Cathedral tour. Our guide was excellent.View All 130 Walking Tour Reviews
Walking TourWe took the tour to the Marksburg Castle which is the only castle in the Rhine Valley to have never been heavily damaged. We loved seeing the castle intact, learning about castle life in the middle ages and seeing the Rhine River below from high on the hill.View All 91 Walking Tour Reviews
NurembergOur city tour was very complete with a bus tour through the city, a walking tour through the old town and then time to shop and have coffee in the old town.View All 551 Nuremberg Cruise Port Reviews

WurzburgWe took the excursion out of town to Rothenburg ob der Tauber which is a must see medieval town. We dined in a Franconian restaurant where we ate a typical franconian meal with wine. This was another charming town to walk about and we made a few purchases of fun German items to bring home.View All 204 Wurzburg Cruise Port Reviews
