Picked this cruise for the Greek Islands visited. The islands were wonderful and we had great weather, which helps.
We ate mainly at specialty dining places. Very good food, in general. Some of the service was slow - expect 1 1/2 to 2 hours for dinner. Loved Le Bristro and Cagneys (John John the wine man is super). Main dining room was also good, but we had slow service there. Get a reservation in advance and very little waiting to get your table.
Embarkation and Disembarkation in Venice were excellent. Expect to be allowed to get on about 11:15am. Getting off was a breeze (less than 2 minutes to get out once off the ship). Walk to people mover (300 yards), take it to P. de Roma (only stop) where there are buses, tram, and vaparetto to get you elsewhere. Walk over the high bridge to the train station. (There is a bag check right next to people mover at P. de Roma.)
The Aft cabins on Deck 8 are right above the Spinnaker Lounge. Loud music until midnight - and sometimes later could be heard every night. We got a good priced upgrade, and now I know why. If we had paid full price, I would be very upset. Fortunately we do not get to bed until late, so not too bad a problem - but best to avoid aft on Deck 8 of the Star.
Otherwise, cabin was good sized, medium sized balcony. Great coffee machine. But being at the rear, a bit of a hike to much of the ship and the elevators.
If not for the noise, I would give the cabin 3 1/2 stars.
You can do this on your own. So much to do and see. Take 3 days. Get 3 day vaperetto pass and get around easily. TIP Doge's Palace is wonderful. Get there by 8:30am and there is hardly any line and uncrowded inside.
An easy town to wander through and get lost. Very close to dock.
Took an independent tour. Very good guide and lots to see.
We really did not go into the old town as we had been there for a stay before. But if you want fast wifi, coffee, snacks, food, etc., there is a great Bristro (changing the name soon to I think Bristro 49) just outside the port entrance. It is across the street with a reddish awning. And the city bus stop is within a block. Our ship was not in Dubrovnik long (maybe 5 hours tops), so if you want to see the town - take a cab (find others to share right at the cab line) or an excursion.
Another wonderful town to get lost in. Very close to the town. Lots of narrow paths that jog back and forth.
