First of all I wanted to put it out there that after reading some ridiculous reviews from previous passengers I was sceptical about having chosen the Pacific Explorer. I booked for my Partner and I that are both white collar workers with well-respected jobs and our 4 children. I had previously sailed 2 years before on the Pacific Aria and only had it to compare to but was again impressed with almost everything. I have laughed at many of the bad reviews now and don't know what people expect from 20 year old ships at less than $200 a night. Some people complaining about the weather, food and rooms are seemingly delusional. I worked in the hospitality industry for 15 years and the food was as good as all the 4 star establishments.

The ship itself was 20 years old which was information available to the public on the P&O site. The public areas were refurbished very well like the Aria and only the cabins were the original decor from 1997. The decor in the restaurants, bars and pool areas was tasteful and well designed. There was plenty of seating in the public areas such as decks and bars.

The cabin (9124), although a little dated (fitting for the 90s when it was built) was clean, neat and comfortable. The towels were replaced twice a day and the beds refreshed as needed. Towel animals and chocolates were put in the room nearly every night. The air-conditioning was able to be controlled and the shower pressure was great. No problem with the hot water and the bar fridge was great to store the cans we took on board plus unfinished white wine from dinner!
