It was a last minute booking and not what we had initially set out to book but was excellent. The staff were really good, friendly and attentive. The cruise director Christine was incredibly knowledgeable and keen to make sure everyone got the best from their trip. The organisation was faultless and shore guides so informative - they had excellent English, their own individual style and were just superb.

The food on board is plentiful - buffet breakfast and lunch and then 4-course dinner - usually with regional specialities. The wine served at meals was of a high standard. There is also the opportunity for 16 guests each evening to try a bistro dinner served in the front of the lounge so you can maximise your river viewing. The menu is a taster menu, geared around fine dining bites so quite different from the main dining room.

Afternoon tea and cake was a nice touch - even though the calories were not needed!

Entertainment is mainly piano based in the lounge but there was an accordion player brought on board on one occasion at lunchtime and an excellent string trio on another evening.

There is a good balance of organised tours and free time to do your own thing if you wish and we appreciated that - we like some down time to explore ashore.

There is not one thing I could fault (other than perhaps some damp weather) and we would love to return!

Cabin Review

Outside Stateroom with Window

We had a cabin with windows rather than a balcony as we left it very late to book. For the Rhine cruise in autumn this was not an issue but a balcony would be lovely for the summer. Cabin had all you needed, good bathroom, kept spotlessly clean. Comfortable beds and nice bedding too.

Notre Dame Cathedral

Cathedral was busy with tour groups but a great experience. The astronomical clock is amazing and windows are beautiful.

Cologne Old Town

Excellent guided walk through narrow streets into the old town. Beer seems to have played a large part in the city's history - there is brewery after brewery. Cathedral is incredible, unfortunately access to the tomb of the Magi was temporarily closed but just visible from afar. The Roman museum is also worth a visit. It will be interesting to see the results of the dig around the City Hall in due course. The Americans on our tour were fascinated by the plaque for JFK's visit in 1963. A good morning out.

Canal Tour

Very informative. Wonderful views of canal houses followed by a walking tour.
