Hello This was our 21st cruise, our 6 on NCL ,we've cruised with most of the major lines from porthole rooms to owners suites ,so we pretty much know what to expect. Embarkation from N.Y. was good ,because of a deal ncl offered us 4 years ago we obtained Platinum status for this cruise,Nice no waiting on lines ,was on the ship in about 15 minutes We booked a category AF mini-suite,which wasn't much larger than most of the balcony rooms we've had on previous cruises ,closet and draw space was well laid out and adequate . No dvd/cd player, no in room music, just a regular TV. NCL in very concerned with cleanliness ,upon entering any dining room or restaurant there was a ncl employee there to spray your hands with sanitizer. this is OK with me ,the last thing I want is to get sick and be confined to my room [this happened to a friend of mine ,he was confined to his room for 3 days] Of coarse they never tell you in advance about this . But I agree its necessary to prevent something from spreading. The Jewel is a modern very clean well maintained ship ,I would give this ship 5 stars for cleanliness throughout the whole ship ,I've been on one ship ,which I won't mention that I wouldn't give 1 star. The buffet is what it is ,good for breakfast, O K for lunch, OK for dinner if you get there early ,If you get there late say 7.30-8.30 it seems that most of the food is either cold ,or flavorless from being kept warm . The hamburgers were always cold it seems. Specialty restaurants Mexican ,Tangos was quite good at 10.00 extra pp. Mama's Italian was disappointing ,both myself and my wife ordered veal marsala ,hers was so tough you couldn't,t cut it with a knife ,I complained to the manager ,he said something like he would let the kitchen know there was a problem ,didn't offer to replace it ,or credit the 10.00 fee. The blue lagoon [free] had excellent hamburgers, wings ,great for lunch on sea days. We only went to the free dining rooms twice ,they both were OK nothing exceptional. Le Bistro french restaurant was excellent well worth the extra 15.00 Overall the Jewel is a excellent ,clean ship with a very nice gym, fast elevators ,I would recommend this ship and would definitely consider sailing again on the Jewel
