9/24/17 Carnival Magic: Great vacation experience, ship and time with friends

Review for the Eastern Caribbean Cruise on Carnival Magic

Hey there cruisers,

I returned last week from my cruise on the CARNIVAL MAGIC. I traveled with a group of 11 other friends. They always refer to me to take care of the bookings because I am the seasoned cruiser and they know I will find them a satisfactory stateroom within their budget. I managed to snag my room via a “Casino offer” from my VIFP “Special offers”. Everyone else I was able to get Early Saver bookings..

This was my 18th Carnival cruise since 2006 and my 23rd cruise over all. I was on two sailings on the Fathom Cruises earlier this year owned by Carnival Corp. and was looking forward to returning to Amber Cove, Dominican Republic to re-visit friends I met while helping lay concrete and re-forestation excursions. Unfortunately, Hurricane Irma, Jose & Maria had different plans for my itinerary so we were switched to the eastern itinerary the week of and visited Belize, Cozumel & Cost Maya. I’ve been to all three ports, but was looking forward to re-visit Costa Maya since my last trip there was way back in 2006. I have also cruised NCL, RCI & Fathom. I do critique what I see and my overall experience in hopes the cruise line and future passengers may benefit. I tend to cover multiple captions in detail and I hope that my experience is helpful to you and possibly the cruise lines. .

Port Reviews

Belize City

The last time I was at this port I went to see the XUNANTUNICH MAYAN ruin. It was a long excursion, but one of my favorites. So since I did not have any time to see the port area, I chose another walking around and shipping day. There are many shops along the water just off the ship. At the end of the strip is a small interior mall with additional shops to browse. Many of my group picked up most of their T-shirts & souvenirs at this port.

Costa Maya

I haven’t been back here to this port since 2006. It has changed a lot from what I remember and was very crowded during our stop. With the hurricane switching itineraries most of the eastern ports had to accommodate extra ships and this was no exception. It was a very hot day and the added cruisers in the port area didn’t make it much better. We chose to walk around the assortment of shops ducking in and out of the few that were air conditioned. It was a fun day and hopefully I get to return again to take an excursion.
