The Rhine/Mosel cruise sounded idyllic, visiting lovely medieval towns in a leisurely manner. Although the cabins were on the small size there was plenty of cupboard space and since we weren't in them too much of the day it made little difference. We liked the 'free dining' choosing where you wanted to sit rather than being designated a certain table. The free wine during the meals was brilliant and Emerald were not stingy!! The food was reasonable but made memorable by the delightful staff who seemed to be enjoying the trip as much as us. The evening entertainment was good. Getting on and off the ship was easy, the tour guides were excellent imparting so much local knowledge in perfect english. Certainly a wonderful trip.
However, we weren't made aware that any credit on our onboard account was wiped clear the morning (9.00 am) that we were due to depart. We were told the evening before that the 'shop' would be restocked first thing in the morning and were lead to believe we could use our credit then. I have written to Emerald, after making a comment to the Tour Director Balazs, but sadly have heard nothing. Trying to contact Emerald to speak to someone about this problem has been impossible. We shall use another river cruise line next time.
On the small size
Quite a long walk into Wurzburg along the tow path but was well worth it. It was easy to walk around with a minimum of traffic.
Delightful medieval village really with an interesting history.
Noisy, longish walk to and from the ship.
Interesting visit to a wine tasting in the centre. The town was just about to celebrate the wine harvest so was buzzing with food stalls, fairground rides etc unfortunately we left the day before the festival began.
Very interesting tour guide. Impressive roman remains. Lovely coffee shops.
