Picked this particular cruise because ancestry is from that area. Travelled with adult son (47). He also had a great time despite being one of the younger passengers on this mostly retirement-aged group. Port visits, food, service and entertainment were outstanding. Easy getting on and off the ship.
Weather colder and drizzlier than expected, but only had to break out the umbrella a couple of times.
Particularly enjoyed guitarist/singer Randon Lauron who plays Neil Diamond, Paul Simon era sing-along songs. A real crowd pleaser.
Obstructed view was the only thing left at the time I booked. Was lucky to draw a room that was only about 30% obstructed, so could see the sea adequately. Was disappointed that I could not get the unlimited drink and dining upgrade package that was indicated to be available at the time I booked, but was pulled back at the last minute. Cruising without that makes you feel like second class.
Cabin was very nice and was well taken care of by Dedy, whom we looked forward to greeting every day and to see his latest animal towel creations.
Good place to walk around
Suggest car rental to see geothermal sites. Book Blue Lagoon tickets well in advance.
Tour to Urquarht //Loch Ness cheaper on the pier but book in advance online
Funicular to mountain was highlight. Can be walked to from ship and doesn't cost much. Good place to have a beer and enjoy the view.
Did walking tour of Westminster highlights. If transfer to Southhampton via Stonehenge is on agenda, book bus tour early. If sold out, a private car/driver can be arranged, but costs twice as much for two.
Didn't go, but people seemed to like the whale watching. I went for my first ever jog near the arctic circle. Was one of the few days with sunshine on this cruise.
