Viking is based and registers its ships in Bergen, Norway - who better to cruise the Baltic and Scandinavia than with Viking. The itinerary is perfect overview of the gems of the Baltic and Viking is the first class way to see this region. The Viking Star is a beautiful ship, the food and service are excellent and amenities superb. We stayed in a Junior Penthouse Suite for this cruise and found our room to be as reviewed. There were some issues with upholstery stains from prior occupants that were immediately addressed when raised with management - all to our satisfaction. The demographics of the ship tends to older, successful retirees which is what is expected for this cruise line, at least for a September cruise, but likely for all other times. The ports were wonderful and exciting to visit. We booked private tours in most and recommend the same which gives you better and less expensive tours - use the CC Boards to explore this aspect. The Viking Star featured lectures by a resident Historian which were excellent and others lectures as well regarding, food, culture and art before each port. The food offerings were excellent. We enjoyed all venues except the Chef's Table - we found the menus here to be pretentious and unsatisfying. It would be better for Viking to revise the Chef's Table to offer a more varied gourmet menu experience rather than one fixed menu. Manfredi's was superb as was the Restaurant and World Buffet. Overall, we enjoyed this cruise so much that we booked another while on board - this speaks for our delight with the Viking experience.

Cabin Review

Cabin Junior Penthouse Suite

Cabin was as expected based upon previous reviews on CC. One issue arose initially regarding some stains on upholstery which was raised with management and addressed to our satisfaction. This cabin had all the great amenities: sizable bathroom with double sinks, heated floors & towel rack, shower of ample size plenty of storage. Room had plenty of storage, power outlets for all voltages and thoughtful lighting (not sure why dim bulb in wall sconce over sofa?). Balcony was large and room was airy and had plenty of natural light. An amenity in this suite is laundry, dry cleaning and shoe shine service which was done promptly and well - next time will pack less!
