Embarked on a 7 day cruise to Croatia, Turkey, Santorini Greece, and Corfu, Greece. Traveling with my partner, mother (83yrs) and her friend brought on a new series of challenges with getting to the ship, on board activities, and getting on and off at ports. The trip went with almost no hitches, but the weather in October means a 50/50 shot at decent weather. Arrived into Milan and took a brief train ride from Milan to Venice. At about 2.5 hours travel time, and $27 Euros, the ride was nice, and arrived in to the main Venice Train station at about 2p. From there a vaporetto ride to the hotel, Hilton, and a brief walk from the stop to the hotel. Traveling with my mother, her luggage, my luggage, and many bridges made me rethink the transportation means on our trip to the port.

Purchased a 24hour Vaporetto ticket on the first leg and had full use of the system for 24 hours from first use. (always validate the ticket at the dock before you board the first time). Hotel great location on the Grand Canal, and they usually have some specials. Balked at the $15 Euro breakfast special buffet, but the next morning, rethought that as a bargain. The Euro does not go far, and things are very expensive, but do not let that deter you, just be smarter in your purchases.

Kind of relaxed for a bit, then took advantage of the free hotel shuttle boat to St. Marks, then walked around at dusk, took the #1 around the grand canal. This in itself is a great tour, and good way to see the sights. Back to the hotel and bed. Up early the next day and off to St. Marks. Struggled to find a breakfast spot (hence rethinking the hotel deal) and most places were over $20 Euro for a Continental Breakfast. 1040a appointment at the St. Marks Basilica, then a 1155 secret itinerary tour at Doges Palace..both booked on line prior to leaving....1st was free, 2nd was about $10 Euro. Back the hotel, grabbed the bags and water taxi from hotel to ship. Water taxi is $60 Euros, 4 people and 4 large bags. Dropped you off at the pier and RCCL takes the bags from you there, wonderful. Shuttle van/bus about 4-5 blocks to the pier check in facility, but it is walkable.
