We enjoyed our time on the Viking Sky. The ship is new, beautiful & sparkling clean. The smaller passenger load meant that we didn't experience any crowds or lines at any time, except during boarding times for excursions which were handled very efficiently. The staff were unfailingly polite, friendly & helpful. Excellent food with a nice variety of choices in both the standard & specialty restaurants. Embarkation in Stockholm was very easy, disembarkation in Bergen was also conducted efficiently - although we had to leave the ship at 3AM! The Viking Homelands itinerary provides a wide exposure to many of the lovely countries in this region and the included excursions gave a nice overview of each port. A couple of tips/notes: 1. If you plan on taking an excursion, including the included tours, note that they will consume almost all your port time in several of the shorter stops. This doesn't allow much/any time for shopping, sampling local cuisine, simply wandering or satisfying a special interest. 2. Be VERY honest with yourself about any physical limitations impacting your ability to walk, stand or climb stairs. Most of our tours involved at least some walking on uneven surfaces, hills or stairs. Even the bus only tours required a long walk along the pier (sometimes), the ability to climb 3+ steps to board the bus and the gangplank includes multiple (very shallow) steps. We observed several fellow passengers using walkers who were struggling to manage & the tour guides are on a tight schedule & weren't able to slow the entire group while they caught up. 3. Take advantage of all the dining options. We had no problem making additional reservations in the specialty restaurants once we were on board (book from your room TV). Don't forget to try the Norwegian fare at Mamsens in the Explorer Lounge. The tea served with tea sandwiches & pastries in the WinterGarten was also lovely when dining late. Complimentary room service is the way to go on early port mornings. 4. The historical enrichment lectures & port talks were always very informative. Be aware that they are always shown on your TV later that evening if you can't make the actual presentation. 5. The in-room TV provides a wide range of movies, nice when resting in the cabin. 6. The evening classical concerts in the Atrium were a lovely way to wind down the day.

Cabin Review

Cabin 4078
Very comfortable cabin with plenty of storage and large bathroom (for a ship). Loved the heated floors in the bath and the roomy shower. Plenty of hot water & good water pressure at all times. Enjoyed our port side balcony.
Tips:
1. Bring magnetic hooks for the wall. Use to hand jackets to free closet space.
2. Additional hangers will be provided by your steward upon request. Shower contains a clothes drying line.
3. There were plenty of USB ports & 110V outlets, I brought a short power strip as well, giving us even more options
4. Moving the coffee table over in front of the window freed up floor space while still allowing access to the balcony
5. Switches next to the bed control the nightlight
6. You will need to insert your room key into the wall switch when you enter the cabin to turn on the lights & A/C. We used a spare business card & just left in the switch to avoid forgetting a room key.
