We chose Viking at the behest of our AAA travel agent and we are so happy that we did! The ship was lovely with a welcoming decor. Our cabin was on the lowest level with a large window. Although it was small it was more then adequate given the amount of time we spent in the room. The cabin steward kept the room very tidy as it was cleaned twice a day! My father and step-mom chose a room on the top floor with a french balcony. The view was quite extraordinary but the room was a bit smaller then ours. For an older couple the proximity to the common areas was a plus and the access to the elevator, which is not available on the lowest level, was a must! When we arrived I had some clothing cleaned and or pressed. The process was so easy and the turn around time was super quick. Sabrina, the singer in the lounge, had a wonderful voice. We loved unwinding at the end of the evening while listening to her, talking with new friends, and enjoying a cocktail. If you are looking for a cruise with very varied entertainment then this would not be the cruise for you. The service on the ship was top notch across the board. The crew was large and they did an amazing job of getting to know you by name. George, our cruise director, was fabulous. Gunter, the hotel manager, was worthy of a job running a five star hotel! We loved our servers, Norman and Galina, and tried to follow them for each meal. The food was sublime! The choices were perfect and varied! The gluten free options were terrific and I never felt limited or at risk of cross contamination! Lastly, the ports and excursions were wonderful. I wish the itinerary included spending the day in Amsterdam instead of Kinderdijk as visiting the wind mills was a short excursion and probably could have been done in a couple of hours. My only "complaint" would be that the cheese making excursion in the Netherlands was quite a turn off as the smell of the farm was distasteful and overwhelming. Additionally, for my husband and I, we were uncomfortable seeing calves and hearing about their impending slaughter.

Deluxe Stateroom

Cabin E

The cabin was small but the lay out was well thought out. The bathroom was well designed and modern. There was plenty of room for my considerable wardrobe both in the closet and the drawers. The window in the room was large enough to provide ample light but not designed for viewing the countryside. When traveling through the lochs in the evenings I found myself being awoken by the noise. I think that being on the lowest level and the rear of the ship compounded this problem as my father on the third floor did not hear anything at all! Once we went through all of the lochs I slept well. Alex, our cabin steward was great!
