We have always wanted to see Alaska and this cruise fitted the bill perfectly. My wife is in a wheelchair and we were very impressed how accessible the whole of the ship was. We were very impressed that Holland America had a good selection of wheelchair accessible excursions available (unlike other companies who we have cruised with in the past!) In Juneau we went whale watching and were transported in a coach with a wheelchair lift. In Skagway we did the White Pass Rail Journey where there were coaches with wheelchair lifts. The only problem we had was the White Pass Railway excursion where we were constantly told before that we disembarked by tender, that the train was specially reserved to our ship and would wait for us all to disembark. When our tender finaly docked the train had already left which upset a large number of people. However there was another train which was leaving in 3 hours so we spent the time looking around Skagway before catching the later train. The food in the MDR was some of the best we have had in all the cruises we have been on. We also ate in the 3 speciality restaurants - Pinnacle, Canaletto and Le Cirque - they were all excellent and we would recommend dining here. The choice of bars was good and the theatre shows were good. Overall we would recommend this cruise.

An excellent cruise

Cabin Review

Large Ocean-View Stateroom
Cabin FF 1955
My wife is in a wheelchair so we were allocated this accessible cabin which was as large if not larger that the suites which we have had on other ships. There was plenty of room for the wheelchair and the bathroom had a 'roll-in' shower. There was plenty of hanging and shelf space. The only slight problem was that there was an emergency call button on the bed head which was very easy to press accidentaly when you stretched out ! - We did it at least 5 times but on each occasion the front desk phoned to ask if it really was an emergency so they must be used to this.

  • Glacier Bay
The Park rangers were on board in the Crows Nest Lounge and they gave a brilliant commentary as we sailed up the bay. It was fantastic eating lunch and watching a glacier calf.

A good excursion wehere we saw orcas, hump backed whales, sealions and the odd bald eagle. My wife is in a wheelchair and the coach which transported us had a wheelchair lift. The boat we went on was also wheelchair accessible

  • Lumberjack Show
The show was a short walk along the pier and was fully wheelchair accessible with seats reserved on the front row.

The was spirited competition between the 2 teams and we really enjoyed the experience.

  • White Pass Scenic Railway
We were booked on the 9.00 train but when our tender finally docked the train had left which upset a lot of people. We spent 3 hours in Skagway looking round before we got back to the ship and too the 12.45 train. Very impressed that some coaches had wheelchair lifts and were reserved for disable passangers.

The train journey is awsome and should not be missed - the scenery is out of this world!
