We chose this cruise on Celebrity because we 1) Loved the itinerary and 2) are long time cruisers with Royal Caribbean and were told Celebrity was a step up from RCCL. While the ship (Reflection) was beautiful and the accommodations top notch, the best we can say about the rest of the cruise is meh!
First of all, the ports did not disappoint. We had a fabulous time at all of them. The ship is relatively new, very clean and new. The food was very good, but nothing special. We saw 4 of the entertainment shows and only one (a magician) was outstanding. The shipboard activities were mostly sparsely attended and therefore, did not yield an exciting atmosphere. The service was generally pleasant, but with a few exceptions, not effusive. We took one shore excursion (with the cruise line) in Naples, and while very good, it was long (6.5 hours), they did not offer food and allowed us less than 20 minutes to find food on our own. In addition, they stopped at a cameo factory as an "enticement" to sell us something that was not part of the description.
Everything was exceedingly overpriced. A $50 "special" halfway through the cruise for a small bag of laundry; A $250 "special" halfway through for WIFI (most coffee shops in port offered free WIFI); the wine packages that included $40 bottles of $8-12 California wines. We never went to any of the specialty restaurants because the up price was exhorbitant ($40-50 per person).
The room was great, but when I next book a balcony, I need to make sure it's more than 3 decks above the smoking section of the ship
Best part of the trip. Did a hike from Fira to Oia (about 4 hours) and a bus ride back to Fira. Incredible views at the top of the caldera and a lunch that could not be beat. Would go back in a heartbeat.
No shore excursion. Just walked around the walled city. Very unusual and pretty.
Beautiful island. Walked around, climbed down to step into the Mediterranean and looked at the shops.
