I chose this cruise because it stopped at all the places in the Mediterranean I wanted to visit. The ads for Viking made it sound like a ship for adults who were interested in cultural and educational things. We weren't interested in water slides, casinos, and other noisy pursuits.
The common areas of the ship were like someone's living room in Norway. The bar was quiet, There was a string trio and a guitarist playing music every night.
Food was wonderful in the regular restaurants, and absolutely superb in the reserved restaurants. Reindeer toe broth? Ostrich carpaccio? We couldn't pass this up.
cabin was perfect. It was a bit cold to sit out on the porch but it had a nice view. Our personal crewman remembered our names right away and brought ice every day although I only asked for it once. Very comfy! Warm shower floor.
Very interesting drive around the area, with a stop in town to enjoy the farmer's market and shopping. We visited s cool castle hotel that was a steep climb. It was Sunday so many of the shops were closed.
I had been to Algiers in 1968. I was anxious to see it again. Our guide was wonderful. He knew the history and current events of his country and spoke perfect English. We had a police escort. I loved visiting the Casbah where we saw a restored home where some ladies served us tea and dates and showed the women in our group how to fold a head veil. Absolutely fascinating visit.
Loved the market and the tapas tasting. The aquarium took up a lot of time and was pretty boring after seeing Sea World and the Birch Aquarium as well as the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I would have rather stayed in town for sightseeing and shopping. One sight I'll never forget was two Police Officers holding hands. One male, one female.
