Sail Date: Aug 2017

Arrived in Stockholm 3 days before the Cruise, and enjoyed our self arranged tours of the City based in a very nice, centrally located hotel. The cruise met our expectations (based on previous wonderful River Cruises with Viking plus), but was a very busy cruise with excursions scheduled for every morning except one (which turned into two when we couldn't dock in Gdansk due to Winds). The weather co-operated, and turned out that August was a great time to visit, but didn't need all the warm clothing we brought, it was on the "coolish" side! Ship is a perfect size, food and provided beverages were excellent (but make sure you book some reservations for the specialty restaurants early), and rooms well designed and comfortable. Entertainment was very good, and lots of activities to chose from. For the most part the included excursions were good, but a couple could stand enhancement (in comparison to those included on the river cruises), and in the end most will book some of the optional excursions (of which there were so many, that they should be studied in detail before embarking to ensure you can get what you want - many were "very" expensive!). Service on the ship meets the high standards expected on a Viking Cruise, although I was a little disappointed that customer services didn't agree to assist in resolving a "multiple" membership issue that arose as a result of previous cruises, as their should be an increased emphasis on acknowledging, and rewarding faithful customers for their loyalty and participation in previous cruises!

There was an appropriate emphasis on cleanliness (keeping both the rooms and common areas sparkling clean), and ensuring all used the available hand sprays, before entering the restaurants, etc.. However, we did note an increasing number with those nasty cough/colds as the cruise progressed, and strongly recommend the Cruise Director (or whomever) should convey the message from the beginning (and continue to emphasize) that at the first sign of congestion/illness, the passengers should avail themselves of the medical services available or self medicate (regarding the latter, they should also ensure that some of the over the counter remedies are available at an attractive, reasonable price to encourage use.
