Having cruised with NCL numerous times before we thought we would give Epic a shot as the timing and itinerary suited. The ship is VERY big, but we knew that beforehand. (we have previously sailed on their smaller ships). Embarkation at Barcelona was busy but well handled by staff and we were onboard pretty quickly. The layout of the ship takes a while to get used to but we were given a handy map to help.

Our balcony cabin was on deck 8 (most cabins on this level have a restricted view due to lifeboats) ours didn't but the balcony was uncovered so not good if the weather wasn't perfect or if you wanted any privacy. It was however quite convenient for the main dining rooms and bars. As others have said the bathroom layout is difficult to get used to although it didn't bother us at all. Our steward kept the room very clean, towels replaced daily and plenty of coffee for the machine which comes in handy in the morning. Long way to walk however to get to lifts as there are no mid section lifts on the ship so not ideal for the less able or fit.

The food in the main dining room was OK and waiting staff attentive. The buffet was always very busy, best to find a table before your food. Good choice of food and beverages. Where we felt this trip was not up to the usual NCL standard was the lack of staff, whether clearing tables in restaurants or bars or round the pool area which was very crowded especially on sea days. The lack of staff was especially noticeable at bars, getting served took an age and tables were always covered with used glasses and were sticky. Drinks were however up to the usual standard. We ate in the Bistro one evening which was good and worth the extra charge, and the chinese restaurant was very good best to go early as it can get very busy.
