Booked 2 mini-suites thru travel agent. We also did the land portion in Fairbanks. Excellent sight-seeing and food/drink service on the Princess train to Whittier. Good balcony spaces (port side - land view headed south) and comfy beds. Food and entertainment onboard decent but didn't sample all possibilities. "Sanctuary" section highly recommended - free, but book onboard for luxury AM or PM service. Most excursions seemed over-priced. I'd recommend booking your own, particularly for active options like cycling, kayaking, etc. We were particularly disappointed in the Ketchikan "Wildlife & Crab Fest" - just a quick boat ride to pull a trap and casual frozen crab leg lunch for $169 each. The Juneau all-day excursion to the Mendenhall glacier and whale watch left no shopping time in town, but excellent boat trip to see seals, whales, eagles and otters - highly recommended. The Skagway stop was bused from Haines (about 10 miles west) due to rock slide at Skagway port.
