Oceanview cabin showed it's age (#4024). Couch was well worn, wood was chipped and paint in bathroom was chipped as well. We had a problem with the safe, it often took up to 10 tries for it to lock. Also, the phone cord was so tangled that whoever called us could not hear us when we spoke.
We really enjoyed our meals in Chops Grille and Izumi! Our meal in Giovanni's Table was awful and their way of compensating us was to offer another night there, which we elected not to accept.
The cabin attendant was wonderful. The wait staff at My Time Dining were wonderful. The staff in Windjammer were also wonderful.
Entertainment was fair - some acts were better than others. The RCCL singers and dancers were fair. The mime act, the illusionist, the acrobatic act, and the tango couple were good (acrobats were execellent). The biggest disappointment is that most acts lasted less than 40 minutes - we expected an hour.
We enjoyed the Beatles Celebration because we are huge fans of Beatles music but they were not very good.
Pools were over-crowded - there are signs saying you cannot save lounges but we saw lounges that had towels on them for hours but the people never showed up - staff never removed the towels as they said they would after 30 minutes.
We don't like to dress formally during a vacation and really appreciated that just a nice outfit (without suit or tie) was acceptable on formal nights.
Embarkation and disembarkation were organized and went rather smoothly.
We did not book any excursions through RC other than transfers in Ravenna, which was great. We elected not to book excursions with RC as they were often twice as costly as the private excursions we booked (which were excellent - we used Rome in Limo for Livorno, Civitavecchia, and Salerno and Riviera Premium Tour in Villefranche).
We really enjoyed the Cruise Critic Meet and Greet but would suggest doing it the first night as we had four port days before the M&G and wanted to meet the people we shared excursions with before the actual day so many of us arranged our own informal M&G on the first night at Sail Away.
My highest praise goes to Cruise Critic for creating the Roll Calls - that is how we met people with whom we shared excursions and even corresponded with some on a regular basis before the cruise. In many cases, we felt like we knew each other before actually meeting.
We already booked our next RC cruise but will not likely book on Brilliance again unless it is refurbished.
