Looked forward to going to Cuba for years. Because of changing regulations had to make this trip quickly. Cuba did not disappoint. Unique and wonderful experience from the beginning. We arrived as the sun came up along the Malecon illuminating the high marks of Havana in a reddish-orange glow. The statue of Jesus on the bluff, the capital building, the fort, and the docking of the ship in the 1 port building fully intact. Of course a major sight were the classic cars - everywhere - awesome!!

Whatever idea about Cuba being restrictive was dashed with the Highlights of Havana bus tour that hit all the highlights Catedral de San Cristobal, Revolutionary Square, Forteleza de San Carlos, El Capitolio (National Capital Building) and of course the Cemetery - quite a lot of historic grave monuments and markers. Definitely a bit long in the sweltering heat and humidity. Our guide Lisa was outstanding providing narratives on each through out the tour who answered all questions regardless of what was asked - socialism, wages, America, Embargoes, upcoming Cuban elections, conditions of the building, crime (practically non-existent.

A revelation as to how free and easy it was for movement in departing the ship and entering Vieja Havana. No problem entering through Cuban customs and immigration and moving about. We ate at "the Pescado" cantina a few blocks from the square and on the way back we met Jeffrey a Cuban Elementary school teacher - so cool to talk to him to get his perspective on Cuba and Americans. Also cool he did not ask us for anything but gladly answered our questions. It is unfortunate we still hold to the old image of how Cuba is and miss the opportunity to aid this country to develop into a thriving country that the people would benefit greatly! Read more
