We selected this cruise from Bergen, Norway to Stockholm because of the itinerary and because we have thoroughly enjoyed our two Viking River cruises (Russia in 2013 and Amsterdam to Budapest in 2014) making us firm fans of the Viking way of doing business and running their ships. The Viking Sky is nearly new and gorgeous with beautiful and welcoming decor, numerous comfortable areas for relaxation, enough but not too many bars and no casino or photographer! We had on-board enrichment with historians and region experts who have very interesting talks, all of which were available later on the ship's TV channel.

Our Penthouse Veranda stateroom was larger than the standard and well appointed with a generously sized bathroom with plenty of surfaces for 'stuff'. The stocked fridge was appreciated and the welcome bottle of Proseco was a nice touch. A lighted make-up mirror appeared after a comment to our room steward, Made.

The World Cafe buffet had a good selection of choices but frequently felt crowded and was the only place where the staff seemed to have difficulty keeping up with the needs of the guests. The 24-hour coffee and tea stations in this area do need a little tweaking to make them more user-friendly. The Restaurant provided a first class dining experience as did the Chef's Table where we twice enjoyed the set and paired menu. The Grill on the pool deck provided an excellent option for lunch.

Cabin Review

Cabin Penthouse Veranda

A bit larger and worth the extra cost with loads of drawer space and very comfortably and nicely furnished. The bathroom was generously sized with a nice shower, high-end toiletries with visibly sized and readable labels. The faucets had easy to use handles. We would have enjoyed tea-making provisions in addition to the very nice coffee maker. Clearly, a lot of thought and consideration went into planning the staterooms.
