  3. Celebrity Eclipse
We have been on nearly two dozen cruises and have traveled on several cruise lines. In our opinion, Celebrity is the most professional and and has the best maintained of the major large cruise lines. Our August 13, 2017, we departure from Southampton on the Eclipse for our 13 day cruise to St. Petersburg and back with stops in Denmark, Sweden, Estonia and Germany. It was truly a great adventure. We had a wonderful time throughout the ship, in the Blu dining room, and in our Aqua Class stateroom, too. The shore excursions we did on our own with our trusty Rick Steves Northern European Cruise Ports guide in hand to Copenhagen, Stockholm and Tallinn were delightful. Our ship sponsored tour in the Fredericia, Denmark was new for the ship and what a treasure it is. Our guide through the town of Fredericia and Christenfeld was a local young man who gave excellent narratives and was extremely personable, pointing out where his family members lived along our bus travels. It was so refreshing to have such an engaging guide. In St. Petersburg, we opted for the long two day tour. Our guides, Maria and Ekaterina knew every palace, painting, museum, church and canal in the city. They definitely made the entire cruise worth every penny. Finally, the ship's employees, from Captain Leo, the most engaging ship captain we have ever encountered on any cruise line down to our wonderful room attendant, Will, represented the Celebrity line as one would expect from a first class world cruise line.

Cabin Review

AquaClass
Cabin A1 1606
Very nice. But we miss some of the closet shelving that have been on other ships.
Our balcony was quite large, with easy access to the elevators.

  • Berlin
Our ship docked at Warnemunde, which is a popular beach resort area for the Baltic We chose to ride the S Bahn to Rostock, about 15 minutes away instead of the 6 hour round trip to Berlin. Rostock is a much larger town dating back to medieval times. It's university was the first of it's kind, being founded in 149. The most interesting site for us was the Stasi (East German Police) Documentation Center and Memorial. It was fascinating!

Easy to get to the terminal from the bus drop off. Folks were helpful and friendly. However, there was some confusion between the ship and terminal employees as to when we, as Aqua Class and Captain's Clum members could board the ship. We had instructions from Celebrity that we could board any time after 1030, but the terminal employees were not aware of this arrangement.

  • City Tour
Our two day tour was absolutely the highlight of the entire cruise. Both of our guides knew every museum picture, palace, river canal, and history of every stop. Even the early call out to the bus by 0700 was worth all ten hours each day we spent there. Lunch at local establishments was nice, also.

City was really quite beautiful, especially the approach through the archipelago. Some miscommunication between the port HOHO bus and the as the tour desk and guest relations on the Eclipse continued to sell tickets to the bus and there was not enough capacity to accommodate the number of riders. We stood in the rain for an hour and a half waiting for a ride into town. It would have been better to take the other HOHO bus line and they had about a 6 to 1 ratio of buses from the dock as did the one scheduled through the ship.

Beautiful old city with quite a history. The city square was a delight as local acts kept many visitors entertained. We walked both upper and lower parts of the city, with a break at a city square cafe, enjoying an Aperol Spritz.
