Cabin: Mid-Ship Mini-Suite with Balcony

We wanted to see the Scandinavian countries and had a day in Copenhagen before leaving. I'd recommend 2-3 days, although it is an expensive city. Getting on and off was about as easy as they could make it - embarkation went fairly fast, and when we left the ship, NCL had arranged shuttle buses to the airport and to the city center.

Our cabin was bigger than our usual, but the balcony was smaller. This ship is the biggest we've been on, and it had some wonderful entertainment. We went to see the dueling pianos twice and saw Million Dollar Quartet. The flip side of a big ship is that it is/was jammed with people. A number of the activities were scheduled in the Atrium and you rarely see a chair open - but that means if you go to those activities, you have a to hope you get a seat. Regular dining rooms tend to be crowded - and OMG, the buffet is always a traffic jam and a fight for a table.

Service is spotty - our cabin steward was great, always on top of things. The dining rooms could be great, or you could wait 10-15 minutes for someone to take your order.

Mid-Ship Mini-Suite with Balcony

Cabin MA

The cabin was very nice, a little bigger than average, and our steward kept it very clean. He was quick to get us anything we needed. The balcony seemed even smaller than I've seen on other ships. Since it was a Baltic cruise, we didn't spend a lot of time out on the balcony but if it had been bigger, we might have.

Port Reviews

Copenhagen

We had only an afternoon one day and the morning of the next to enjoy Copenhagen. Wish we'd taken more time. Also if we had been a little more prepared, we might have managed our time better and been able to see more.

Rostock (Warnemunde)

Took a German harbor tour, climbed the lighthouse, had lunch on the boardwalk, and did some light shopping. The cruisers who went to Berlin said it was great.

St. Petersburg

Loved Tallinn. We opted not to do a tour because we'd heard it was walkable and you could see a lot on your own. You could and we did. A tour might have given us a better, more comprehensive overview of the town, but it was very enjoyable. Tip - climbing to the top of St. Olav's Church steeple is a lot less crowded later in the day, even if your legs are already tired. Can't imagine going up those steps and fighting people coming down! Great view.

Helsinki

Wish we had done an excursion in Helsinki - there is a lot to see and we wasted some time early taking a harbor cruise. It was fun but wasn't the best trade-off.

Tallinn

Loved Tallinn. It is a town where an excursion isn't necessary and, since the excursion would almost have to be a walking tour, it's easy to do on your own. Lovely medieval town with churches, cobblestone streets, great views and interesting sites. The old town walls are still intact, at least around most of the town. Check out St. Catherine's passage and the very old church of the same name. Tip - if you want to climb St. Olav's tower/steeple, don't do it first thing, because that's when everyone else wants to do it. Wait for later in the day when you won't have to fight the people coming down to get up the steps. Tough for two people to pass, much less a steady stream of people. But the view is worth it!
