No cruise is a bad cruise and this certainly wasn’t bad, but after enjoying six other cruises the Norwegian Getaway would rate as my least favorite ship (and I am talking here only about the ship, not the service or destinations). Having said this, how you react to a particular ship is doubtless a matter of taste and personal preference to a degree.

The Getaway is far larger than any other ship we have been on and we decided that was not our cup of tea. We don’t gamble or drink, so the large amount of space devoted to those activities onboard the Getaway had no appeal for us, but might be just what someone else is looking for.

I kept mentally comparing the ship to Holland America’s Zaandam, which carries less than half the passengers the Getaway does. Where the Zaandam has some charm and whimsy, with a musical instrument theme, the Getaway has none. The interior decoration on the Getaway was in black, puce, and purple – it looked funereal. The theater was a large black box with terribly uncomfortable seats; surfaces of the seats oddly sloped downward.

Cabin Review

Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BC

Cabin was clean and well maintained by housekeeping. It seemed well designed with adequate storage space for three people. The bed was very close to the closed, making it difficult for more than one person to access at a time. Lighting was good. The balcony was small, adequate only for two people at a time. Interior decor was brown faux wood. One painting on the wall.

Port Reviews

Tallinn

Used a guide book to do a self-guided walk around this medieval city. Easy access (ten minute walk) to starting point of tour. There is a lot of up and down. On Pikk Street we wandered into a Marzipan shop, which had a museum of Marzipan sculptures in the basement: Kermit and Miss Piggy in Marzipan!
