Cabin: Interior Stateroom

Not having cruised before, I wanted to try a short cruise from Hong Kong. I had an interior stateroom on deck 9 without a virtual balcony. I didn't mind this as I didn't plan to spend a lot of time in the room apart from sleeping or napping. I preferred to sit up on deck to watch the passing scenery. The China coastline along the way to Sanya was quite spectacular.

Organisation of the shore excursion to Sanya on day 2, which I had reserved, was a little bit of a shemozzle, but it all worked out okay.

On day 3 the Windjammer buffet opened at 7:00am for breakfast, despite the ship being scheduled to reach Da Nang at 8:00am, with the shore tours also commencing from 8:00am. There was pandemonium in the Windjammer cafe as people struggled to get their food and then find somewhere to sit and eat. Unfortunately there were insufficient places because everyone was working to the same schedule. People were standing up to eat. Some of us took our plates out onto the deck where there were one or two free tables. Royal Caribbean should open the dining facilities for breakfast at least 2 hours before arrival at ports along the way.

Cabin M

My cabin was roomy, very clean and well prepared. The housekeeping/ room service staff were great. Top marks. They arranged to put the two single beds together for me to make a king size bed. Bar staff and waiters were all excellent and very friendly. I can't speak highly enough of them.

Port Reviews

Hong Kong

Hong Kong Cruise terminal is at the former Kai Tak international airport site. It is a major, modern facility.

All the staterooms aboard the ship are strictly non smoking. There are, however, three areas where smokers can enjoy a cigarette. These are the outdoor, poolside area on the starboard side of deck 11, the Casino Royale on deck 4 and the outside area of deck 4, also on the starboard side. Drink waiters will look after you on deck 11 and in the casino. Both outdoor areas are, of course, well ventilated and have great views.

There is usually lots of activity pool-side at deck eleven, including music and outdoor movies on an enormous flat screen.

The live shows are very well attended, so it is suggested you book at the customer service counter on deck 5 as early as possible.

The Promenade café on level 5 serves coffee and snacks (pastries and donuts) most of the time. I was of the understanding that one could get pizza here at most times of the day but, in reality, I found that this was not the case until 11:00am.

On reflection, there were many features of the ship that I didn't explore, such as the ice skating rink.

My cruise was scheduled to leave from Hong Kong at 6:00pm and I was informed that I could board any time after 12:30. I timed my arrival for 1:00pm but actually arrived early. My suitcase was checked in with a promise that it would be delivered to my room. The process to get through immigration and customs at the Kai Tak Cruise terminal was very smooth and quick and I was on board and taking snapshots by 12:30. A message was broadcast that the staterooms would be ready for all passengers at 1:00pm so I took the opportunity to get lunch and a beer at the Windjammer café. After this I went below to check my room and found my suitcase there as promised. The room was well presented and a daily information brochure listed the details of activities for that day and evening. I recommend boarding as early as possible to get the maximum value for your money.

At 6:00pm sharp, the deep rumbling noise of the ship's horn reverberated across Kowloon Bay as the ship drew out from the pier.

The customer service on the ship is fantastic. I found the staff to be very helpful and polite.
