Just got back from a four night cruise to Cuba on Norwegian Cruise Lines Norwegian Sky. Although I am a Senior Citizen, this was my first cruise ever. I have traveled extensively in the United States (and have visited all 50 states), but this was my first trip at sea. I was motivated by the recent opening of Cuba, and a chance to see the island before it becomes more "Americanized." I particularly wanted to see all the old 1950's and 1960's American cars.
The ship was great - it exceeded my expectations in all ways. I booked a cabin with a balcony - a bit pricey, but well worth having. I could lay in bed, open the balcony curtains, and watch the waves and shoreline sailing by. The food and dining was also great - the "free style" cruising concept is a great idea. Eat when you wanted, where you wanted, and basically come as you are - no need for formal dress or such. The food was fantastic - all drinks (soda and alcohol) was included, so anytime I was thirsty, a nice cold drink was nearby.
The daily activities around the pool kept me entertained, and the entire crew did everything they could to make it an enjoyable trip. I took an all-day trip arranged by NCL down thru the Vinales Valley (scenic tobacco and farming region of Cuba), which was educational and fun.
Great cabin - actually plenty of room for one traveler. I paid for a room with a balcony, which was pricey but worth it.
Good extra day of fun in the ocean.
