This was an expedition cruise along the Eastern Siberian coast from Petropavlosk Kamchatski in Kamchatka, Russia on the Professor Khromov/Spirit of Enderby
The ship was a small 54 passenger ex Russian research vessel with no frills accommodation but it was warm and comfortable. Food was excellent and well presented.
The route which followed the coast to Anadyr, allowed us to see the spectacular scenery of mountains and volcanoes in this area within the Pacific Ring of Fire
Activities concentrated on landings and cruises in zodiacs where there were multiple good sightings of Brown Bears, spectacular views of Steller's Sea Eagles, close up views of walruses and thousands of sea birds. From the ship there were sightings of Orcas, seals and whales and more seabirds.
The expedition staff gave many talks on local wildlife, botany, geology, and history of the indigenous peoples.
The passengers on the ship were there to enjoy the remoteness and the wildlife though were treated to a show put on by the local Chukotka people at one of the landings.
This was no ordinary cruise!
