An excellent boat with great cabins, excellent service, and great food, but it has one major drawback for cruising the Baltic - its criteria for getting into the trickier ports are too strict, making the risk of cancellation because of the weather quite high. We were really looking forward to a day in Stockholm, but the visit was cancelled in what were moderate but not particularly heavy seas and wind. A smaller cruise ship would have been able to dock that day, so we would recommend doing a Baltic cruise on one of the smaller ships. There is also no reimbursement offered for the fact that we missed one of the key ports, even though the cruise ship company would have saved a significant amount of money in Stockholm port fees, the cruising distance saved through missing Sweden and the advertised archipelago tour altogether, and the bunker fuel saved by then slowing the ship down from 20 knots to 13 knots so that we would still arrive back in Copenhagen at the scheduled time.

Ship is very big, handles the large numbers quite well. Only time crowds were a problem was getting off the boat and through immigration at St Petersburg - queues for getting off the boat were a bit chaotic, and it took us nearly an hour to get through border control at St Petersburg.

Dining experiences were excellent, we ate only at the venues included in our fares. Lunches we normally did buffets at the Garden Café, excellent selection of foods. Dinner we did buffet once when the Garden Café had a theme we liked, the rest we ate in one of the themed a la carte dining rooms which were all good. They all have the same menu but the menu changes a bit each day, and there was plenty of variety for everyone. Sometimes we had to wait for a dinner table but we had pagers and could enjoy our drinks while waiting, never had to wait longer than 20 minutes for a table. Breakfast can be a bun-fight at the buffet Garden Café but one of the restaurants on deck 8 also had complimentary buffet breakfast, which was much quieter, so we always had breakfast there.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Oceanview Stateroom with Large Picture Window

Cabin OB

Good spacious cabin, spacious bathroom (compared to river cruises), and picture window was fine, liked seeing the see from close quarters and didn't miss not having a balcony for this cruise. Also very stable on deck 5 even in heavy seas.
