This cruise was chosen for the itinerary's length of time in Cuba. Since this was a first for me I wanted to get as much in of the country as possible. Embarkation was smooth and went quickly. Our flight arrived in Miami at 10:25 and we were on board the Sky by 11:15 after taking a taxi for $30. I'm not sure if it was due to being a suite guest, or if it just went smoothly, as there were many people already on board. The first stop was Cagney's for lunch. Cagney's is open for breakfast and lunch for suite guests only. The menu is much the same as on the bigger ships and does not change. That is okay for a 4 day cruise, as there is always an option. The cabins were ready by noon. We were in 10264, an aft penthouse with large balcony. The balcony was the favorite spot with 2 lounge chairs, two chairs and a table. The only problem was the soot that rained on the balcony once the ship was underway. The room itself was small with a small living space with sofa bed, a small bathroom and a small bedroom. The configuration is strange, but was okay for 4 days. Never been in a suite so small. The food was okay. The first night we went to the MDR and had awful service. The food was delivered cold and when it was pointed out, they brought back another cold dish. We just kept the second dish as after waiting for 45 minutes to wait for the first meal, the second was another 30 minutes. We did mention this to the maitre'd and were told that we could get a third serving, but told him that after an hour of waiting we would just eat the second cold meal that was brought. After that poor experience, we kept to Cagney's that consistently had good service and room service. Service was excellent from our butler Made and our room steward Michael. Both were intuitive to our needs and made us feel like we were their only guests. Entering a country that has had many upheavals and has not always been on America's side was a little intimidating. We never felt unsafe or distressed by our surroundings. The people kept up with their reported reputation of being friendly. Immigration was easy and it wasn't bad going through after the initial entry. Money exchange had many windows open so it went quickly. We had booked the old car tour and a night at Tropicana. The old car tour was nice even though our "guide" didn't speak English. He would point out things and we would figure out what is was. We were told that there were 3 English speaking guides that would get with all the cars at one point, but we never saw them. It was worth it to see all the cars, but I wish we could have had a guide that spoke our language. The Tropicana was good and bad. It is set up for tourists and is in an outdoor setting. Very hot, but being right next to the stage were able to get some of the dry ice smoke come our way even for a brief moment. The bathrooms were also air conditioned. The show began slow with violinists, but went on to be the Vegas type show with elaborate costumes and amazing dance performances. All in all, it was a nice cruise. We were able to see a new country and experience the Cuban people.

Cabin Review

Aft-Facing Penthouse with Large Balcony
Cabin SE 10264
The balcony is great with 2 lounge chairs, 2 chairs and a table. The room is very small the bathroom was a single vanity, a tub, a toilet and a shower that is too small. It was easier to stand in the tub, wet yourself down, soap up then kneel down and hose off. The shower is made to only stand one way and is difficult to wash hair. If you drop something, you will bump into the walls to try to pick it up. Leg shaving had to be done in the tub.
