We were in awe of the ship from the moment they handed us a glass of champagne as we boarded. The ship was gorgeous. I was especially impressed by the set of eight glass backed elevators with a view of the atrium. that included a multi-story tall tree in a beautiful tiled "pot" suspended between the floors....hard to describe this intriguing sight.

Because we boarded around noon, the cabin areas were locked off, so we headed to the buffet area and found a place to stash our carryon bags. The tables are not unduly crowded together, so this worked out ok. We had a leisurely lunch, and at 1:15 there was an announcement that the cabins were ready; the doors to the hallways were unlocked and we were able to head to the cabin and meet our room steward.

Cabin 8299 had a refrigerator stocked with cans of pop to purchase ($3 plus gratuity on each), so we asked the room steward to remove these, as well as the bottles of water available for purchase. This was done immediately, and we used the refrigerator for the pop we had brought on board with us for the remainder of the cruise. The rounded beds are comfortable, and fit well in the cabin configuration. At first we were stumped by the apparent lack of drawer space, but we requested, and received, extra hangers and had plenty of room to stow our belongings. I did use my carry on bag as a drawer for underwear stowed under the bed which worked out well. There are shelves above the bed (with a front drop down lid) that work well for folded shorts and tops. The balcony was more spacious than many and the chairs had an adjustable back. A foot rest would have been nice, but that's the only improvement I can think of. The cabin included a sofa long enough to stretch out completely. The coffee table was a convenient size for a room service tray. There were two US type outlets and one European outlet by the desk and these were the only ones available in the room. It was nice that the hair dryer and curling iron could be plugged in there where there was a mirror available as well as lighting.

One cabin location factor I had not realized is that the cabins close to the elevator area on deck 3 would be very close to a very active area. This is where many bands and performers entertain guests all day and night. This would affect level 3 cabins more than any other.
