Although we had no problems with the three-piece bathrooms in balcony rooms on the Epic (and in fact found them rather convenient), we were dissatisfied with the short bed: I am only 5-10 and my feet hung over the end. For meals, we were entirely satisfied with the quality of the food (and, yes, are used to good meals in upscale restaurants) and the attentive, courteous, fast service in the main dining room. No problems, either, with the buffet, regardless of the time of day: both quality of food and attention by buffet staff were excellent. Our steward was attentive and courteous--not excessively fawning, but attentive, as you would want. We found the upper-crust Haven a major drawback for those of us unable or unwilling to afford that luxury, esp. as they were allowed to block off two of four elevators (already in short demand and always crowded after a long wait) at any time so they bypassed us and went right up to (or down from) the Haven. Entertainment was quite good, esp. Burn the Floor, except extremely irritating latecomers were allowed in for unknown reasons, disrupting the performance for a good half hour, searching with flashlights for seats down in front of a packed house. The biggest drawback: for anyone contemplating taking the 7-day western Mediterranean cruise, and boarding in Rome rather than Barcelona: think twice. We did, and throughout the cruise we felt consistently that the schedule, announcements, events, etc., onboard were all aimed at Barcelona-embarked passengers, which apparently outnumber the Rome-embarkers by a considerable ratio. Not even one person welcoming us aboard, offering information and directions, no welcome-aboard drink, nothing. We had to find our room on our own. We also encountered lengthy, complicated problems, and were ultimately unsuccessful, trying to arrange a post-cruise transfer through NCL back into downtown Rome. In comparison with the sixteen post-cruise transfers available to folks who disembarked in Barcelona, the only two available to us were to the airport or to a hotel considerably outside the center of Rome (we were leaving Rome by train). Entertaining serious thoughts of switching to another line.)
