We chose this cruise because of the destinations and also, we had cruised with Celebrity 7 years ago and were very impressed at that time. Celebrity pampered their guests at that time. The Food in the main dining hall used to be 4 star and the service there was wonderful. On the Celebrity cruise from which we just returned, the food in the main dining hall was at best 2 star, except the last evening when they wanted you to give them top ratings on their survey. All during the cruise I was looking for fresh berries. That was the only day we had them. That day we saw banana smoothies, rack of lamb, beef rib roast, just like it used to be.

The Celebrity Silhouette is an older ship and some wear and tear is evident. Our sofa was very worn and torn. The ships main lobby however is still very beautiful. The entertainment in the bars, foyer and lounges was very nice. They provided a variety of music in the theater. The quality was fairly good. Celebrity is becoming a ship that has a class system. If you are in Suite or Aqua Class, you were pampered, just like they did everyone 7 years ago. The Suite and Aqua Class have their own restaurant that only they can eat in, also have one bar that only they can go in. The descriptions of the Shore excursions provided by Celebrity was misrepresented in some cases. We booked an excursion in Inverness, billed as"Discover Scotland's breathtaking highlands and landscape from a luxury vintage car rail carriage on Scotland's premier heritage railway." In actuality, we drove an hour in the bus, had a 15 minute ride on the train, where you couldn't see out very much because of the high bushes on both sides. We were late getting off of the ship, which was common on this cruise, so our free shopping time was cut. Our excursion in Edinburgh to the Castle was also disappointing. We were there during the Military Tattoo, so a big crowd. We were to tour the Castle, we had one guide for 48 people, no talking devices. So she had to gather us around, taking time, so when we did finally get in the Castle, we only had 20 minutes to view it. Most concerning was the Excursion to the Military Tattoo. The ships crew was organized to tender us during the day, using 6 tenders, for there were 1200 people from the ship going to the Tattoo. However, after the Tattoo, we were bused to the dock to be tendered back to the ship. We stood in pouring rain for 2 and 1/2 hours before we got tendered, and we were the lucky ones, some stood for 3 -4 hours in the pouring rain. For some reason, Celebrity only used 3 tenders that night to get 1200 people back. They set up a small covered tunnel for some to stand in, but they put it in a low area, so the tunnel had 2 inches of water in it. They didn't let anyone know what was going on. They took all of the buses away, so we couldn't get inside anywhere, and there were no bathrooms. They had no idea what they were doing at all!! Fortunately we didn't have any emergencies at sea on this cruise, because with this crew, that could have been disastrous. We were all cold and wet getting back on to the ship, so we cancelled our next morning excursion. When we went to the head of the shore excursions telling him that we cancelled because we were cold and wet, he told us he wouldn't give us credit, because we fibbed to him and said we were old. I told him, that I said I was cold, not old. We finally get credit for the cancelled excursion, but have never been treated so rudely before. On one day excursion, we were to get a meal, but the restaurant didn't start serving until 45 minutes after we had been there, and then our guide told us we had to go, so none of our group got the last 2 courses. Our guide for Blarney Castle played CD's all the way up and back from the Castle and when we got there, she pointed out a few things and then left us. We did have a wonderful excursion in Wales and in Belgium, the guides were great. It was interesting that one guide on another excursion told the driver to take the long way back to the ship. She didn't want to get back too early or she would be scolded for it. The Ports on this cruise were beautiful. But the Captain and Crew were so poorly organized. It was a shame. Celebrity used to be the cruise line to take, but they have certainly gone downhill. Never again!!

Cabin Review

Deluxe Veranda 1A

Like I said, the ship is old, and the cabins are really showing it. The upholstery on the sofa was ripped and torn, the table in the room was marked. When we entered the room, we found small sharp pieces of plastic on the carpet. Later we found a white plastic tooth from a comb sticking in the carpet. The shower was nice. Our bathroom door squeaked, and without us asking, our room steward had a maintenance man fix it. That was nice. Our room steward was very nice, but had to take care of our entire corridor. Celebrity was cutting down staff here.

Port Reviews

Cobh (Cork)

Our day tour was to have a meal, but we waited 45 minutes before we were served, so had to leave before 2 courses were served. Irish music was too loud, but they were good. The Irish dancers were excellent, but only the people in the front row could see their dancing
