We have been on several cruises with Carnival, our first in 1995. We booked the Legend primarily because others we knew were taking this Alaskan cruise. We have sailed Royal and Carnival in the past. Overall the cruise was average or just below. Dinner service was fair at best. The service was slow, the food was just ok. In past cruises the staff was good at remembering things like who wanted coffee after dinner. Every night we had to remind them to bring coffee. The last night the food was just barely warm. One group in our area brought their 2 year old who screamed 6 of the seven nights. The mother just watched and laughed, this is not Carnivals fault but it makes for a less than enjoyable dinner. Staff should have asked them to step out, but maybe their policy is to just ignore it. But that type of thing just adds to a less than positive cruise experience.

The lack of cleanliness surprised me. People who had ordered room service the previous night or for breakfast would leave the trays outside the room. The trays with old cold food would then sit in the hallway all day. You think someone would monitor the hallways for things like that and pick them up. Our room balcony had rust and peeling paint and dirty railing. The ship needed some good cleaning and a coat of paint.

In the past staff would always clean your room in the morning and then turn down the bed at night. You now have to ask specifically for them to clean and arrange the room if you want it done morning and night. The price of a cruise has not gone down but the service has.

Cabin Review

Extended Balcony

The rooms were ok, we had an outside view with balcony. Not a bad size room for a cruise ship. It only had one electrical outlet, We ended up also using an extension cord that was hidden behind the tv. Overall the cabins were good, clean and comfortable.

Port Reviews

Skagway

We did not book an excursion, instead just walked into town. Go to the information building just as you get to town. It's part of the Federal Park system. A free walking tour of the town. Very interesting and the Park Ranger was very friendly and informative. Pay $5.00 for the city bus and ride all day for one price. Took the bus to the old cemetery and walked up to the water fall. A good day. Had lunch and the local bar/restaurant.

Ketchikan

We walked the town, which was interesting. It rained pretty much all day. Bring a hooded rain jacket. I was surprised how touristy it really was, We had never been to Alaska before, I was just expecting something different. Lot's of jewelry and gold shops, Diamonds International in Alaska? I thought that was just a Caribbean cruise thing.

Seattle

We had never been to Seattle before. It was an interesting place but not somewhere I would go back to. Pike Place Market was insanely crowded. Everyone talks abut the fish market. It's mostly flowers, vegetables, souvenirs and food. People waiting in line around the block to buy a cup of coffee and Starbucks first place. It's just coffee folks.
