This was our fifth cruise on Princess. Our previous four cruises had been to the Caribbean (3 cruises) and to Alaska (1 cruise). We have also been passengers on Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Oceania and Costa. We tend to choose our cruises based on itinerary and ports offered. This cruise had a great itinerary and what made it special for a British Isles cruise were the stops in Liverpool, England and Le Havre, France.

The ports were great. We learned so much in our visits to the Channel Islands (Guernsey), Ireland (Dublin and the Blarney Castle), Scotland (Glasgow, Inverness and Edinburgh), England (Liverpool) and France (Le Havre-Normandy). We chose Princess tours for all ports and were very much satisfied, particularly the tours that included lunches. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and we learned and saw so many different facts.

Our issue was with the food choices and food quality. We had been on Princess two years ago during the maiden year for the Regal Princess. Two years ago was also the 50th Anniversary year for Princess. I am not sure whether the fact that this was an inaugural cruise year or a 50th Anniversary year, but the food quality was so much better on that cruise. This time around the food in the buffets were lukewarm at best, the choices were not that great in all the restaurants on nights other than the two formal night, and we saw ourselves eating salmon on five straight nights in the Anytime dining room and in the Traditional dining rooms. Formal nights the choices were better and the food in the Crown Grille was also good.

Port Reviews

Cobh (Cork)

Visited the Blarney Castle. There was nothing special about the castle but felt that this was what we should be doing. Never kissed the Blarney Stone as the lines were slow moving and there was no great impetus to get on our backs and kiss the stone. The Blarney Woolen Mills were a great place for souvenirs and the town of Kinsdale also was very interesting.

Greenock (Glasgow)

Went to the Military Tattoo after walking around Greenock during the day. The Military Tattoo is only available for three weeks in August. This was the highlight of our trip. If one wants to see the British Isles, one should be in Scotland in August to see the Tattoo.
