My girlfriend and I chose this cruise for its itinerary - places we had yet to visit - and price, it was a little cheaper than the competition for the itinerary and time. It was also the first time cruising with Costa, although I have 25+ cruises in my history.
We embarked in Venice, and the embarkation process was well-organized and smooth, although lengthy, we waited 2-hours before our number was called.
Ship - it has all the essential and standard ingredients of a cruise ship with nothing special, when compared to other ships - no swimming pool slides, no climbing wall, no bowling alley, etc. It has pools and jacuzzis, bars and restaurants, etc. All well-kept, well-cleaned and the ship's public places are all nicely decorated and glitzy to provide a nice cruising experience.
Standard - but bad location right above the ships theater with poor sound proofing.
Venice is certainly worth a visit and many people know it. It is full of tourists! It is small enough to walk everywhere without requiring public transportation - the grand canal boats - Vaporetti - that will charge you for 7 or more Euros and make you wait 30 mn which is more than the time it will take you to walk where you are going. Also, besides its incredible beauty, the city is very expensive. They will charge you a cover of a few Euros just for sitting in a bar or restaurant, or staying in a hotel - in addition to your bill. The food is made for tourists that they know are going to come anyway, so do not count on any good tasting food - in fact, the worst pizza hut pizza is probably better than the best Venice Pizza you can find. So enjoy the city's beauty and special ambiance, but expect to pay a lot.
The ship stays only 4 hours here so...Not much to do or see here - a nice walk along port side of the city is all.
Beautiful town with spots here and there to swim in beautiful clear waters - the old city is nice with its narrow alleys and shops or all sorts.
We decided to just walk to the beach from the ship. They offer taxi rides to Olympia to see old roman ruins - but I have seen enough old stones in better shape than those in Olympia. The beach was great!
Great medieval city walls still intact. Took a funicular to the top of the overlooking mountain for a very nice view of the city. Then a nice swim right there in the port of the old city - just beautiful!
