The Bucharest - Budapest Cruise is the best way to see this part of the world. Independent travel by auto (our usual mode) would be difficult. Shore excursions were thoughtfully planned and well executed. We had some excellent local guides. On board entertainment, activities and orientations were just right. The cruise/activities director was personable, informative, and knew how to "read the room." Hotels at either end were outstanding. We especially liked the Budapest Hilton, its location and integration into an historic structure. Service on board was flawless, food excellent, with many choices and service options. Just being on the Danube, and passing through the scenic Iron Gates on a beautiful day, was a highlight for us. We would recommend cruising this part of the Danube in this direction. Starting where the effects of communism are more evident and moving upstream and toward the west reveals the differences in the politics and culture, and ends one in a more positive place. In any case, Balkan history is sad and complicated.
Very comfortable. All we did was change clothes and sleep there.
