Budapest has been on our "bucket list" for some time so it was a toss-up between going east or west from there. We chose the Budapest - Nuremberg route because of its popularity and we weren't disappointed. This was a perfect experience from the outset and Viking did a great job. This was our first river cruise. We are die-hard Holland America cruisers but this was a new and pleasant change, The Viking Gullveig was built in 2014 (I think) and in superb condition. I highly recommend a veranda state room. It was incredibly relaxing to be able to sit out there and watch the countryside drift by, The staff were outstanding, the food was superb, and our fellow passengers great company. The shore excursion we took were those that were included in the price of the cruise. All were well organized, not especially hurried, and the local guides excellent. I highly recommend this cruise.

Cabin Review

Veranda Stateroom

Cabin B

Our cabin was a bit smaller than what we are used to on our HAL cruises but certainly adequate and comfortable. It was also immaculate.

Port Reviews

Regensburg

This was another well organized and pleasant walking tour. Regensberg is an attractive German town, untouched by the second world war.

Nuremberg

We opted for the free Nuremberg Through History tour. The local guide was very knowledgeable and informative. The tour visited the site of the massive Nazi rallies and took us past the courthouse where the famous Nuremberg trials took place. The medieval castle district was predictably crowded but afforded panoramic views of the old and reconstructed parts of the city. Overall a good tour.
