This cruise was planned to celebrate DH's 90th birthday and was to include the entire family -- our four children, their spouses, if any, and six grandchildren. Altogether, 13 family members participated: DH and me,our four children, one daughter-in-law, 5 granddaughters aged from 19 to 23, and one grandson of 15. Our son-in-law could not attend.
Most of us came to the port of Seattle on Friday before a Monday cruise departure for the Awe of Alaska cruise on the Oceania Regatta. We really enjoyed Seattle. We stayed in the Best Western Executive Inn which was ideally located just 2 blocks from the Space Needle and walking distance for everyone but DH and me from Pike's Place and a host of other attractions.
On Monday my daughter arranged with the hotel for a van to take us to the port. It was not quite big enough for all of us and our luggage -- I have a mobility scooter -- but in two minutes a limousine appeared to take DH and me -- and we all arrived at the port within a couple of minutes of each other.
The cabin was relatively small but adequate. It was very clean and the service by Felicia, our stewardess, was excellent. The bathroom was tiny, especially the shower, but we managed. I don't expect a wonderful shower on ships or hotels anyway. Somehow all our belongings disappeared into into the storage provided and there were some empty sheves left over.
Everybody enjoyed Seattle -- we went to the Chihuly Museum one day and the Pike's Place market the next. At our ages, 85 and 90, that was enough! Everybody else did a lot more and enjoyed Seattle very much!
