We chose Freedom of the Seas because that's the ship that was available for our dates. It wasn't my first choice as I have previously cruised on the newer Oasis of the Seas and last year cruised on its sister ship Independence of the Seas.

Don't let reviews fool you when you read cabins have been renovated. Yes, they've added a few new cabins but most are still in need of renovations. We again chose a hump cabin which was nice with the balcony out far enough, no one can see into your balcony but everything is old. Our mini fridge did not keep drinks cold like the cabin next door, even after maintenance came to fix it, the desk had bumps of some glue like spots that wouldn't wipe off, bathroom shower still super small, towels were old and tattered, and the intercom in the room didn't always work no matter which way I turned the volume button.

The food was mediocre and I was disappointed they no longer offer lobster on the formal night without having to pay an extra fee for it! On 3 different days someone in our party tried the hamburger in Windjammer. All 3 times the buns were dry and crumbly! However, Johnny Rockets was pretty awesome. Fresh buns and very tasty.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin E3

Needs renovation. Mid hump cabin, so balcony very private. Mini fridge not working. Convenient location to elevator and stairs. It was quiet. Intercom to hear captain's messages only worked the first day. Had to ask for extra hangers and towels were tattered. Had a great cabin steward though.

Port Reviews

Barcelona

Had a great time walking around Barcelona. Tapas 24 was a very good quaint restaurant.

Marseille

We traveled with my 88 year old mother-in-law who depended on a wheelchair while we were in port. The cruise line suggested not taking her to the Norte Dame De la Garde. We did not sign up for the cruise excursion, but we hopped into a cab and to our surprise the cab driver took us all the way to the top of the basilica. And the basilica also has an elevator. It was very convenient and we were glad we didn't listen to the cruise Line!

Villefranche

It was nice walking around by the port. We went to the Villefranche-sur-mer, but I enjoyed the walk through the streets and along the sea better.

La Spezia (Cinque Terre)

We took the cruise excursion to Pisa. Great tour guide but not enough time to visit inside the venues at the Square of Miracles. While I was appreciative the warnings of pickpocketers, it was a bit overwhelming how much our tour guide emphasized it. Hard to enjoy when you are constantly worried about pickpockets!

Naples

I loved walking around the streets of Naples. But again, so much warning about pickpockets. Hard to truly enjoy Naples when you are constantly worrying about being pickpocketed. But lots to see within walking distance of the port.
