Traveled with children

We have cruised three times. Once at Disney 15 years ago without kids. Second at Royal Caribbean with no kids. And third with Disney this August. All of them were to the Bahamas.

The snorkeling was better on the Royal Caribbean Cruise. Castaway Cay had very little coral reef. But it did provide a section with a float so my daughter could see three fish that were in the kelp. I don't remember if the snorkeling was child friendly on the Royal Caribbean. But the winter snorkeling port adventure on Disney (January 2003) was also not up to my standards. I contacted a non Disney company in Nassau this time around for details and they said they could not accommodate us because we were not in port long enough. We did venture out in Nassau our own to Ardastra Zoo and Gardens and Tasty Teas which worked well for my family.

My main complaints for my August 2017 Disney Dream cruise is the presumptions made by crew members. As a full time mom and foodie, meals were very important. I loved the breakfast buffet. It had lots of fruit that I didn't have to prepare. And many other options for my husband and daughter that made eating out fun. Lunch was okay but we didn't want to sit down so that was our choice and I cannot speak to lunch options.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom

Cabin 08D

The room service was good. The cabin animal towels were cool. We trusted our room attendant. There was a separate room for the toilet and the shower that I really appreciated, and a curtain between the double bed and the bunk beds for my daughter, which we asked to be left out instead of changing it into a couch.

I have had a standard Disney inside stateroom, a deluxe room with a balcony, and the room above. The inside stateroom was fine for us in 2003 and I actually preferred the large window this year over the balcony we had with Royal Caribbean in 2006.

Port Reviews

Nassau

We took a cab to Ardastra Gardens. The excursion was too long. So we opted to do it ourselves. We also took a cab to Tasty Teas. An employee even offered to drive us back to the port. We took him up on the offer. Very good experience.

Castaway Cay

The snorkeling and food was just okay. But there were only two minor showers and I got to find sea shells and look at three fish with my daughter which was on my list. My partner took our daughter back to the ship and I snorkeled on my own for an hour. I didn't see much but was circled by a school of color fish which was fun.
