I have sailed Norwegian and Princess. I was told by a frequent cruiser that Royal Caribbean was the superior experience. That was not my experience at all. First of all the cruise director made cameo appearances in the beginning and end of the trip. Norwegian had the cruise director significantly involved in the trip. On both Norwegian and Princess a Captain's Dinner which included Surf and Turf was on the menu. Royal Caribbean failed to deliver any such luxury. The desserts in the main dining room left quite a bit to be desired. There was hardly anything with real chocolate in it. They were being way too cheap. The Baked Alaska was the worst thing I have ever seen. The presentation was terrible and it tasted awful as well. Both other cruise lines had a much better dessert experience. The food in the dining room was an 8 or 9 at best, which made up for the lack of the other offerings. The wind jammer was just awful. The burgers looked bad and from what I hear, tasted awful as well. No outdoor barbeque food. What kind of cruise is that? And to top it off, RC tries to nickel and dime you for everything. I didn't have this experience with the other cruise lines. The end of cruise buffet in the main dining room was terrible. Advertised as a chocolate buffet, there was little chocolate to be found, and I watched a whole new tray of eggs benedict being delivered that was ice cold. Disgusting. The service team overall made up for the lack of ingredients and presentation but if I can say anything the dining experience, ingredients, and presentation need to be upgraded significantly to be able to compete with other cruise lines. I was not impressed.
