I chose Viking due to the fact that myself and my family have previously taken a Viking River cruise down the Danube about five years ago and had a spectacular experience. This time we tried the Switzerland to Paris river cruise which took us down the Rhiene and Mosel rivers. What can I say, the Hild, a brand new ship, 2017, was fantastic in all its appointments. The staff was very accommodating in every way, the food was off the hook great, the entertainment was very good and the excursions and guides were top notch. The Captain, Johan was very professional an yet personable along with the Hotel Director, David and the Director of the restaurant, Theresa couldn't be better. The Chef was absolutely top notch, always delighting us with his creations, so great thanks to him. However, the star and hero in a few cases due to unforeseen bumps in the road was Suzie. She was very professional through a couple of rough spots which included a medical emergency and very knowledgeable of where we were, what we would experience and tended to all of the ships guests needs. She certainly is an asset to Viking and deserves a mountain of recognition. Suzie, you made it great for all of us! This cruise would have gotten a solid 5 from me if it wasn't for the Hotel area we were put up for 2 days in Switzerland. The Hotel that Viking chose was in a Techno area of the city, very bland and out of away from the "old" town which I was expecting to stay in. This would have been a much better experience, It kind of painted a less than palatable start for the trip. The Hotel, even though a large one, didn't seem to be ready to accept the number of guests that were arriving. We had to wait for our rooms a very long time. Even then, Suzie stepped in and made things a bit better. Thanks to all, A great trip, would go again if they tweaked the Swiss Hotel issue.
