We chose this trip because it was an opportunity to see Cuba, before new development, commercialism, and other factors change the setting.
Boarding the ship was a chaotic mess. While the lines were organized by platinum, gold, and other passengers, which should have helped with the crowds and check-in. It seemed that passengers from all lines were allowed to check in based on the whims of cruise staff who were presumably monitoring the lines. There was no explanation given to passengers in the gold or other lines that those in the platinum line were to be given priority, which no doubt frustrated those in those two lines.
Once boarded and underway, I most enjoyed seeing the eclectic architectural styles, learning that Havana is a UNESCO heritage city, interacting with our tour guides who were engaging and knowledgeable, and just roaming the streets and people watching. On-board, watching, laughing, and chatting with your absolutely fabulous cruise director, Carlos, was the highlight. What a talent - quick witted, outgoing and caring, funny, and a wonderful entertainer/singer! The service in our room (4619) and at our dinners (Xioalu and Rayen) was outstanding. Big smiles, taking time to chat with us, and always, always helpful, our direct experience with these staff members was top notch.
The room decor, size, and furnishings were typical of other cruises, but I rated it "poor" because of the plumbing problem described in my review above.
